Pastor George Closs

Pastor George and Gayle were married in 1983. Together, they were blessed with 2 children both of whom are married. Over time their family has expanded to include 7 grandchildren. George and Gayle enjoy life on a small hobby farm not far from Waterford. They entered pastoral Ministry in Ottawa in 1987. Since that time, they have had the privilege to serve God’s people in congregations in Northern and Central Ontario and for the past several years in the Haldimand Norfolk area. The Closs’ began their ministry at Villa Nova Baptist Church as Interim Pastor in July of 2023. In March of 2025 the congregation voted to accept them as their permanent pastoral couple.

When not doing ministry George enjoys looking after their livestock, home renovations and auction sales.

George’s life verse is Jeremiah 29:11. “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”

George draws great encouragement from the truth that our God, the creator of this world, loves us so much that He has a perfectly designed plan for each one of us. God’s love has been fleshed out in the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus, that through him we might lay claim to God’s promises and that plan awaiting us.

George’s preaching style is expository. Studying both the Old and New Testament, he generally works through an entire book or letter. Each week we read a portion of scripture, discuss its content, its audience and its meaning in its original context. From there we seek to discover its application in our present-day situations.

George is always eager to meet new people and build relationships that will see others come to faith in Christ.
